LePage says Florida summit already yielding results

Three out-of-state companies are visiting Maine later this month to explore the possibility of doing business in the state, according to a press release from Gov. Paul LePage’s office released Tuesday morning.

The companies are coming, the release claims, as a direct result of Gov. LePage’s visit to Florida last month for the U.S. Manufacturing Summit, which focused on increasing U.S. manufacturing and was sponsored by Walmart and the National Retail Federation. George Gervais, commissioner of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development, joined LePage in attending the event.

“I am very pleased to hear that at least three companies are planning to visit our great state in the very near future,” LePage said in a statement. “Their interest in Maine only strengthens my resolve to continue pushing for policies to improve our economic competitiveness. I hope these visits are the first of many.”

The administration won’t release more info at this point on the visiting companies. Doug Ray, the DECD’s communications director, wouldn’t provide me with any additional details, such as names, except to say they’re in the manufacturing and agricultural sectors. When asked if the companies are household names, Ray said, “Those that deal with these specific sectors may be familiar with these companies.”

I’ll check in with the administration later this month and report back on how the visitors enjoyed their stay here.
